I did an amp test on mine thinking it was also 6s compatible as per Brian Philips suggestion..its not..180A and the motor gets seriously hot esp with that huge heavy 3 blade stock prop. 650kv motor is designed for 4s power. The 460kv and 550kv from P47 and Beaver are 6s motors. Im surprised ur stock 80A esc didnt pack in or motor seize up. Thanks for the footage. Very quick plane. Looks faster than mine with the 550kv on 7s (110A draw).
Hi Fred, I am considering buying a P-51 Mustang and I love the look of the FMS Red Tail (1450mm V8), but I hear that it is under-powered. I see in this video that you have replaced the motor in yours. So, I would like to know if you are happy with the results that you get from the new motor OR is there another motor that you feel would work even better and, also, how do you feel about the FMS P-51 Red Tail overall? Any input you can give me will be highly appreciated. Sincerely, Derek
Hi Derek, my FMS P-51 1450mm is a good power system but I don’t recommend using a full throttle because of the FMS spinning cannot handle it. The motor is powerful enough with freewing ESC 100amp, I recommend propellers spinning with the two blades from freewing P-51 I already tested this freewing propeller with two blades spinning and I love it because of the solid one-piece two-blade. It’s just a lot of work to balance but it’s worth it.

Ive been wanting a spitfire so I ordered this arf. Ive done other phoenix arfs and some from great planes. Its a nice looking plane but I expect to have some work to get it flying
Have you had issue with the retract servo? Mine stripped the carrier plate thread (the piece of metal that moves on the worm drive) after 20 flights.
I have set of metal servos from a 90 mil f-8 freewing. They look standard size, I may just be able to use them. The servos only have 1 flight in them, brand new practically. I am looking to buy a balsa and this one is real nice.
Phoenix RC model is nice but it’s just taking too much time to put together and make it right before take it out for flying.

did go full throttle? I tried on 6s, but the propeller can handle such a high RPM. Sweet spot on 5s
Yes, I’m full throttle but you have to balance the 4 blades propellers with the spinner. I already tested before I took it to flying. The only thing I didn’t like about this FMS 4258 650kv motor that I put on this FMS P-51 is too powerful, it’s a lot of torque to the left.
What size is the prop?
@@Chuck_theModfather standard 12 inch that came with the plane. I found it can't handle too much rpm on 6s. Not rigid enough

Awesome man as always! I believe the best warbird flying is the f4u. I used the mustang when I started the hobby but for my level of experience it was difficult.
One day you will get there, my first warbird was fms p-51 mustang and I’m totally agree with you about p-51 mustang. It’s very difficult on the landing and take off, mustang love the loops ground and crash. Once day you will master how to takeoff and landing on the main wheels landing, you will love P-51 mustang. P-51 mustang is always my number one Warbirds.

Try using 5s. it has 80A ESC out of the box, ample room for the current. I use FMS predator 650KV with 4000mah 5s GNB Lipo. It flies like a rocket on full throttle.

Yes, I use the one came with it but only change the wheels.
So thats on the stock Predator 80esc and motor? Would love to lower the battery tray and throw a 6s in there.... I've probably got 50 flights on mine so far. I run the SMC high voltage 2800 4s packs. It hit 87mph. Also, did you add any weight to the rear? I added a bit and thats just with a 2800 4s... Thanks!
Yes esc is predator 80esc and stock motor.

Everything is stock, I only modified the battery tray so I can use 4500mah battery.

Hi, how did you get the 2nd pilot in? I will get my FMS 1400mm T28 v4 next week and want a 2nd pilot in the cockpit.
Slowing remove the canopy clear plastic out and after adding the second pilot in, glue it back with foam Tac glue.

Haven't bonded with mine. Had to add 40g to the tail. Front leg has failed and now permanently fixed. It's power Hungary, my 4S get too hot just bumbling about, doesn't like flying slow. Too heavy. Guess I'm only 1 in the world that doesn't like it

Did you lower the battery tray or modify the canopy? If you modified the canopy and you video how you got it to clear the battery?
Take out the wood tray and cut down the foam to lower until you see the plastic. Then you need to trim a little bit of the plastic and glue back the wood tray with the battery strap.

In the planes product description it says you need one retrackt servo, why only one and which one did you use?

No, this FMS T-28 1400mm V4 is run 4s-6s out of the box. You don’t need to upgrade anything but you need to modify the canopy if you want to run 6s 4500mah-5000mah.

The motor is not 6s capable. On 6s the Amp draw was close to 170A a my motor got seriously hot. If u want 6s u need to get the lower kv motors from the P47 or Beaver..
